Capital Project Update- June 2018:
As
you have noticed if you have been by either of our schools, Phase I of
the District’s $9.2 million capital projects is underway with work in
progress at all three locations – E.R. Andrews Elementary,
Morrisville-Eaton Middle/High School, and the MECS bus garage. But
things will really ramp up starting on June 25th after school is out for
the summer.
So
far, contractors have been working on the exterior of the Elementary
building, the pavement in the bus garage area, laying fiber optic
conduit between the M/HS and the bus garage, replacing the scoreboards
in the M/HS gym and removing the bleachers for restoration, as well as
work on the new field hockey field.
This
summer, every window in the District will be replaced, the track will
be resurfaced, significant upgrades to heating and ventilation,
reconstruction of the parking lot at the M/HS as well as the bus garage,
and some interior renovations at the elementary.
The
timeline for completing the work is tight, but the contractors assure
us that the buildings will be open and ready for school to resume in the
fall.
Because
the bids for the work came in well under budget, the District is
beginning discussions for Phase II planning using the remaining monetary
authority granted by the community.
Additional
work in the District, outside the scope of the capital project,
includes a project to upgrade the stage at the Elementary school which
should be completed by June 30 and plans have been submitted to the
State for replacing the boilers at the M/HS as part of an energy
performance contract. That second project, if approved, will be
undertaken next summer.
