Mixed Competition

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has proposed amendments to sections of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education relating to Mixed Competition and Extra Class Athletic Activities. Most notably, the proposal would open opportunities for boys to play on girls' sports teams and girls to play on boys' sports teams regardless of potential adverse effects.

Students, Parents and Community Members are encouraged to carefully review the proposed amendments, as well as the letters of opposition from various local and state athletic organizations, and submit comments during the 60-day public comment period which began on May 22, 2024.
