Throughout the 2023-24 School Year, the Morrisville-Eaton Central School District utilized its Strategic Planning Committee to meet new requirements the Commissioner of Education for NYS set relating to mascots and logos.
The community was invited to offer ideas through e-mail, surveys, and Suggestion Boxes that were placed in businesses and municipal centers throughout the District. As a result, we received many community submissions. As the process evolved, our students contributed hundreds of ideas. After a thorough process, the "Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks" was adopted.
Student logo concepts were provided to a professional graphic designer, and MECS alum, Melanie Chapman. She captured the design development process to show how the design goes from concept to professional product. The process she went through can be viewed in this very short video: https://5il.co/2saxd. Thank you, Mel, for your creativity!
The Morrisville-Eaton Central School District is grateful to A&R Auto, Dougherty Pharmacy, Peterboro Deli, Roadside Inn, The Fort, Cooley's, NY Pizzeria, Mad Taco, and Speedway for allowing Suggestion boxes and survey QR codes to be on display in their businesses as we navigated this process.
We are also appreciative of our municipal partners who made access to our process available to community members. Thank you to - The Town of Eaton, Town of Smithfield, Morrisville Library, and the Morrisville Post Office.
In addition, a thanks goes out to those who invested their time serving on the Strategic Planning Committee, reviewing every piece of feedback, and bringing closure to the challenges of giving up the beloved "Warrior" name for a new beginning. These selfless community members include: Jenn Dapson, Matt Enigk, Bryan Fairbrother, Justine Gleasman, Amy Markowicz, Michelle Morgillo, Heather Moore, Colton Mennig, Will Curtis, Maria Claudia-Gimma, Veronica Mordus, Nick Rauch, Joe Willis, and Sandele Wenzel. Thank you so much!!
Next, our entire student body is appreciated for their thoughtful feedback through every step of the evolution of our new name and design. Their contributions through countless surveys led us to our final product. Your contributions were invaluable.
Our Board of Education approved the name "Mavericks" in March and adopted the logo in June offering valuable contributions as well. Final touches were made by the graphic designer, and now we are ready to roll with Mavericks beginning immediately!
Welcome to the new era of MECS! Go Mavericks!!
